Benin: L’Atelier des Griots helps Cotonians appropriate the public space

In Benin, the Akpakpa Dodomey Enagnon neighborhood in Cotonou is known throughout the country. It has produced a number of soccer players for the national team and has long had a bad reputation. This precarious and cosmopolitan neighborhood has more than 20,000 inhabitants. An NGO, l’Atelier des Griots, which brings together architects and urban planners, has been working for a year to help the inhabitants to appropriate and regenerate the public spaces. The project begins with the renovation of la Maison des jeunes.
